Philips is set to release two new affordable phones for the Asian and European mobile phone market. Both handsets looks the same in design, dimension and features except that the 199 is equipped with FM radio and headsets. These two candy bar mobile phone pretty much carry the same features as their predecessor, the Philips 192 which was released not too long ago. And these features include; the simple black/white design, 65g weight and the 99 X 42 X 13.5 mm dimension. In addition to this similarities with the Philips 192, both Philips 198 and 199 boast of 1.5-inch CSTN color display with support for 62k colors and 128×128 pixel resolution, simple to use keypad, 4-way navigation key, polyphonic ringtones, 3 embedded games, miniUSB, SMS and MMS capabilities, T9 predictive text input and 800 mAh battery which can give out 5 hours of talk-time and 20 days stand-by time. Connectivity wise, the Philips 198 and 199 remind me of the old Nokia days, where dual-band GSM connectivity was a great feature. Yes, both these mobile phones has GPRS too. And guess how much the Philips 198 and 199 will retail in Asia and Europe? $68 and $70 respectively. Didn’t we say dirt cheap?
